Picture framing

Over 400 mouldings and 70 mount board colours, cut and joined in our own workshop behind the gallery. Nothing is sent away.

The Gallery

A comprehensive service, for the trade and the public

Located on the outskirts of the town centre, our shop premises boast a fully equipped modern workshop where we offer a comprehensive framing service to both the trade and the public.

With over 400 mouldings and 70 mount board colours, our friendly expert staff will guide you through choosing the perfect frame to complement your artwork. That guidance is most of the value: the difference between a picture that works on the wall and one that does not is usually the mount and the frame choice, so we will endeavour to explore all the options available to enhance your image.

Whether it’s a family photo, a family heirloom, an oil painting or a football shirt, we guarantee you will be delighted with the result.

How it works

From counter to wall

  1. 01Bring the piece inWith the actual picture in front of us we can hold mouldings and mount board against it. Two minutes at the counter beats an afternoon of guessing.
  2. 02Choose the moulding and the mount400+ mouldings and 70+ board colours. We will narrow it to three or four that suit the piece rather than walk you along the whole wall.
  3. 03We cut and join it hereEverything happens in the workshop behind the gallery, including assembly, glass cutting, mount cutting and dry mounting.
  4. 04Collect it when it is readyWe aim for a maximum turnaround of 7 days, although often your item will be ready much sooner, and where possible we can offer a same-day turnaround.

Questions

Picture framing questions, answered

There is no flat rate, because the price follows the size of the piece, which of our 400+ mouldings you choose, and whether it needs a mount. A small photograph and a large oil painting are not the same job. Bring it in or ring the shop and we will give you a straight figure for your piece rather than a range that turns out to be wrong.

It depends on the piece and on what is already on the bench, so we give you a date when you drop it in rather than a blanket figure. Urgent jobs are sometimes possible — ask at the counter, and say if it is needed for a particular day, because that is much easier to work around if we know at the start.

Almost certainly. Football shirts, medals, memorabilia, certificates and tapestries are all routine here. Anything with depth has to be built out so the glass never touches the object, which is a different job from framing a flat print. Bring it in and we will show you how it would sit before you commit.

Yes, cross-stitch and tapestry stretching is part of the service. Needlework has to be stretched square and held without any adhesive touching the fabric, which is why it is worth having done properly rather than pinned into a ready made frame. Bring the piece in and we will talk through how it should be presented.

Yes. The workshop behind the gallery serves the trade as well as the public, and has done since 1976. Artists, photographers and galleries use us for framing, and for wholesale mounts in quantity our sister site Picture Mounts Online is set up for standard sizes and volume.

Yes, and it is often worth doing. A picture that has been in the same frame for thirty years usually looks like a different piece once the mount is changed. Bring the existing frame with you so we can see what you are working with, and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth keeping or whether a new mount alone will do it.
